General Tips and Advice

General Tips
Do's

  • Do thank a mage politely for speeding/reviving you(paying said mage is also good, payment is usually waters or geons)
  • Do offer payment when asking for speeds/revive, as you will probably recieve faster attention if there is a mage with those skills within earshot.
  • Do use full sentences, proper spelling and capitilaztion (no ToGgLe SpEaK/CAPS as it makes you look like a fUcKwIt), and possibly a mage's name when asking for speeds/revives, this also applies to making request marcos. Since a macro is only one key to press there is no time saving factor in using 'plz' over 'please', so spell them nicely dammit!
Example: "May I have a speed up, please?"
  • Do get a weapon before armor(level requirements permitting), if you can kill the monster before it can hit you you don't need armor. Also having a good weapon will allow you to kill more and make money faster making it easier to buy armor
  • Do talk to people before attempting to party/trade/duel them. Asking first will keep you from recieving a flurry of flames and/or possible future assassinations.
Don'ts
  • Don't dump lures on people. If you're in trouble and need help say so and keep moving, in wide circles somewhat near other people. If other people are willing and able they will help. But for the love of god don't run through and just dump monsters on people like mages who are using AoE skills like Splashy or Fireblow. Most mages know their limits and the size of their current lure is probably it, dumping a lure on them will probably get them killed or at least piss of them off. And pissed off players will spam, flame and assassinate you in return.
  • Don't Spam people with trade/party/duel requests. This is excruciatingly rude and incrediably annoying. If they decline your request the first time they probably aren't interested so go the hell away.
  • Don't Spam 'speed plz' or 'revive plz' in all caps for an excessively long period of time. The more annoying you are, the less likely you are to get anything.
  • Don't make macros that look something like this:
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>SpD mE nOw SeXaY mAge<<<<<<<<<
As it only makes you look like a stupid fuckwit.
  • Don't use stupid false platitudes like 'nice', 'sexy', 'wonderful', etc. when asking mages for speed/revives as this also makes you look like a stupid fuckwit. Sucking up just for the sake of mooching things from others is more annoying than words can describe.
  • Don't mash said annoying macros 300x a second.
  • Don't chase down mages who are going somewhere to beg them for speeds. They're leaving because they
    a) have more important things to do then speed annoying noobs
    b) don't have speed and are leaving to avoid stupid people (like you).
    c) don't have the patience to deal with stupid people (like you).
    d) all of the above
  • Don't visit sites that promise hacks or free geons. These sites probably contain keyloggers and such so they can simply steal your account information and rob your characters. Use some common sense when visiting sites you heard about ingame. A general rule: if the site is spammed incessently for hours on end so no one can get a word in edge wise that site is a fake and will screw you over.
  • Don't give you account information to anyone ever ingame. If someone sends you a message claiming to be a GM and wants your account info so they can check to see if you're 'hacking' or something tell that person to fuck off and die. Firstly there are no GMs ingame, secondly the GMs have your account info already they don't need you to tell it to them. They can find on the server themselves.
Note: One exception is if your account has been hacked/banned and you Email or C/S the GMs you will probably need to tell them as much about your account as you can possibly remember (including username, and previous passwords) so your account can be restored to you if you're lucky.

Advice to keep your account safe
Unfortunately there seems to be a rise in the number of people who have been hacked without having visited hack sites(getting keylogged) or unwittingly giving their account info to the untrustworthy(fake GM scams and the like). Some general rules of thumb to help keep your account more secure:

  • Don't have your account name the same as one of your characters
  • Use your password for Kal and only Kal, same goes for your username
  • Have a password with both numbers and letters
  • Have a username with both numbers and letters
  • Never ever give your password or username to anyone ever no matter the circumstances
  • Don't buy, sell or trade ingame accounts. More often then not people who say they are 'trading' accounts are really just scammers. Also selling your account for geons or real money is against the Kal TOS and can result in you being banned.
  • Ignore suspicious PMs, a recent trend is for scammers to impersonate high level Kal players (by exploiting the poor font choice for ingame text) and go around pming people saying they want to trade accounts for a little while or lying in other ways to obtain items/accounts. If you recieve a weird pm from a 'high level player' try replying to that person by typing their name out the way it should be spelled instead of using the quick reply(shift+space). If the pm goes to a different person who has no idea what you're talking about you can then tell the scammer where to shove it.
  • Ignore fishy emails. Outgoing email addresses can be spoofed, so just because it says it's from something@kalonline.com or kalonline.co.kr doesn't automatically mean it is. If the email includes weird information such as saying to download patches from links, or wanting your login data chances are very good it's a fake. Generally if you didn't do something to request an email from Kal (lost password form/etc) you won't be getting any emails from them.
Note: Kal does send an actual newsletter type thing occassionaly, but this usually only contains update information such as new events. They do not request information, or tell you to download anything.

ok, so what if a mage hits you with a speed-up spell and you weren't asking for it, and you don't even realize you've been, uh, sped up, until a few minutes later you notice the thing in the corner of the screen, and by then the mage is gone....?

(yes, i am a n00b. sorry for my blatant newbieness.)

Well if you do notice then at least say thank you, if you don't notice and don't know who it was well then not a big deal.
